Take some time at dinner one night this week to read this fun fact and then discuss some of the questions.
Did you know...
…that Jesus uses a word in this week's gospel story that only appears one other time in the bible. This week Jesus tells a parable about a person who hoards a bunch of food and other possessions in order to feel safe and secure. But as soon as he tells himself he has enough God says to him that that very night his "life is being demanded of him," meaning that he is going to die before he can use any of the things he has collected.
The interesting thing is this word "demanded," which comes from a Greek word used only one other time in the bible, in Luke 6, where it is translated "ask for it back again." So really this word translated "demanded" actually means "return." God is saying to the man "your soul must be returned this very night," as if our soul, or our life, is something that is given to us by God and then is returned to God. What an amazing idea!
Questions for Discussion:
1) What are some other things that come from God?
2) What helps you feel safe and secure?
3) What are the things that make your soul feel happy?
