DINNER: Did Peter get a second chance?

3rd Sunday of Easter Year C

Take some time at dinner one night this week to read this fun fact and then discuss some of the questions.

Did you know...

…that in this week's gospel story Peter gets a second chance? And a miraculous one at that! Only week's before the conversation Peter has with Jesus in this story, Peter denied the he knew Jesus three times while Jesus was on trial in Jerusalem. That was a moment of great sadness and pain for Peter, and the only other time he had been asked the same question three times in a row . . . until this story that is.

In this story Jesus asks Peter three times in a row, "Do you love me?" And Peter gets the opportunity three times to say, "Yes." Before this moment Peter must have been carrying a lot of sad feelings with him because of how he had denied knowing Jesus. In this story, Jesus gives him a second chance to say that he not only knows him but loves him. What a healing moment for Peter!

Questions for Discussion:

1) What does it mean to regret something?

2) What are some regrets you have?

3) Have you ever had a second chance to do something you regretted a different way?

4) Have you ever given someone a second chance? What was it like?
